Game developers take inspiration from various sources which is why we have so many games to play. History is one of them and it serves as inspiration for many titles that have come out so far. These are great games to enjoy regardless if you’re a history fan or not. In that regard here are some video games that show the link between history and gaming:

Red Dead Redemption 2

The Wild West is a popular inspiration for screenwriters and moviemakers, but it’s inspirational for game developers too. That’s how Red Dead Redemption 2 came to be. In it, you’ll take the role of a cowboy and see what the West has to offer. Besides horse rides, the occasional shootout, and some interesting missions you’ll get to visit a saloon or hotel and enjoy yourself.

You can even play some poker with NPCs as this was quite a game back in the day. It’s a popular game today as players enjoy it on online casino sites. Some people liked to race horses and bet on the outcome which is pretty much the precursor to the modern world of online sportsbooks like betstation.com and many others. They cover MMA, tennis, football, basketball and other popular sports. Always enjoy them responsibly.

Ryse: Son of Rome

The Roman Republic and Empire are fascinating subjects for anyone that loves history and these periods are filled with so much intrigue that they have inspired many movies and TV shows. There are plenty of games that have been inspired by these periods, but none of them are quite like Ryse: Son of Rome. In this one, you’ll get to play as Marius, a Roman legionary that’s just about to go to his first province when a tribe of Barbarians attacks.

You’ll lose your father in the process, but you’ll be recruited into the 14th Legion where you’ll take to various battlefields. It’s a third-person game with hack and slash elements and brutal finishers which is why this title is so good. If you don’t mind the gore and you’re looking to take an active part in the Roman efforts then this is the game for you.

The Assassin’s Creed Franchise

Franchises are rarely as good as the Assassin’s Creed franchise. This one takes you through various periods of history in the shoes of various characters. In the Renaissance, you’ll get to play as Ezio and you’ll even have the chance to meet Leonardo Da Vinci, Niccolo Machiavelli, and other historical characters. You’ll get to face both Rodrigo and Cesare Borgia, fight alongside George Washington, meet King Richard Lionheart, scour the seas as a pirate, and much more.

You’ll even get a chance to be part of a Crusade as you meet 2 orders that have been at each others’ throats for centuries. In other words, real history is mixed with fiction to make for great games. So far there have been several Assassin’s Creed titles and more of them are on the way. Regardless of which title you go for, you won’t be disappointed.
