What we Need to Know About E-Liquids

Electronic cigarettes produce sensations similar to that of smoking by vaporizing a special solution known as e-liquid. The two primary ingredients in an e-liquid are flavoring and anatomizing base. In order to fulfill the role of replacing nicotine, manufacturers include varying measures of liquid nicotine in the solution.

On the other hand, manufacturers develop zero-nicotine formulas for smokers who need to get rid of this addictive substance. This is especially helpful for smokers who want to stay healthy but who do not want to break the habit. Additives like pure grain alcohol, distilled water, and vodka are often used to dilute the solution in e-liquid. This is done when the e-liquid becomes too thick for vaping.

BASES

What makes up 80% to 90% of the formula for e-liquid is the diluent base. Polyethylene glycol 400, vegetable glycerin, and propylene glycol are the most popular diluents used in e-cigarette liquids. These three liquid bases are common additives from food that are used in various pharmaceutical formulations.

The most popular compound in an e-liquid base is Propylene glycol. It has been used since the 1950s in nebulizers and asthma inhalers. PG became the most reliable substance for delivering medications that are atomized because of its ability to hold water. PG has been categorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as safe.

Users will experience a more pronounced flavor and a stronger throat hit when more PG is included in the diluent base. On the other hand, VG is often mixed with PG to create thicker vapor clouds and to have more consistency, as VG is thicker. Vegetable glycerin is also known to be an amazing sweetener. FLAVORS

One of the many aims of e-cigarettes, aside from throat hits and smoke clouds, is imitating the taste of cigarettes. Hence, there is a variety of tobacco flavors available in e-liquids, including Virginia tobacco. Other e-liquid flavors include clove, Turkish tobacco, Cuban cigar, and American light tobacco, among others. One of the most popular cigarette flavors is menthol. E-liquids can boost different menthol fragrances, like green tea, ice, peppermint, fresh mint, and spearmint.

A lot of smokers have to rely on e-cigarettes now because the U.S. government has announced that they will soon ban all flavored cigarettes. There are almost 300 varieties of e-liquids in the market. Some flavors are spiked with coffee, fruits, chocolate, vanilla, soda, spices, menthol, and candy.

NICOTINE

There are varying concentrations of nicotine in e-liquids.

·        Low-strength solutions usually contain 6-10mg of nicotine in every milliliter of liquid. These liquids often give the same hit as cigarettes that are ultra-light.

·        Solutions for medium strength are equivalent to light cigarettes. They contain 10-14 mg/ml of nicotine.

·        High-strength liquids are similar to traditional cigarettes and they contain 16-18 mg/ml of nicotine.

·        Solutions with ultra-high strength are similar to unfiltered cigarettes. They largely contain between 24-36 mg/ml of nicotine.

You can check the volume of nicotine present in an e-liquid from the packaging or bottle. In most cases, “mg” is the shortened notation of the standard “mg/ml”.
